Strata Community Australia (WA) introduces new membership categories Western Australia's industry association for the entire strata titles sector, Strata Community Australia (WA), has just this year introduced new categories for membership and is now inviting owners of strata properties to join the organisation. "Up until now as an owner of a strata property I have had to depend upon the expertise of my strata manager for information. President for SCA (WA) Mrs Ida Smithwick said the introduction of the new membership categories were in response to the needs of strata owners in Western Australia. Mrs Smithwick said she thought the new membership categories were an important step in guaranteeing SCA (WA) represented the needs of the Western Australian strata community. One year's membership to SCA (WA) as an owner member costs just $49. "We will also be running member education sessions, aimed specifically at owner members. Mrs Lissiman owns two strata lots – one in Busselton and one in Kalbarri and said she joined SCA (WA) as she was eager to find out more about how to look after her strata titled property and ensure it was being managed correctly. Owner members will have access to information and education and from July 2012 access to a general advice line, providing them with access to experts who can supply professional advice on matters affecting management or use of a strata titled property. "The growth in strata titled properties has been huge in the last one year. "We introduced this new category earlier this year in the hope of providing appropriate support to strata property owners in what can be a quite complex role. "Finding the right information out there can be a real minefield and being able to have access to education sessions and a member advice line is something I think owners of strata title properties have been wanting and needing for a long amount of time. "Owners living in strata properties face significant challenges in learning about the many facets of properties that fall within a strata titles scheme and understanding the obligations of owners, legislation and insurance issues can be really difficult," she said. "It is essential that as the professional body representing this industry in WA that we continue to meet the needs of the people who are involved in strata properties – whether that be owners, managers or suppliers," Mrs Smithwick said.
