Shed more light on illegal developers

Shed more light on illegal developers

I HAVE been following the news reports and letters on the 195 illegal property developments that have been abandoned.

If buyers find that the developments that they purchased are illegal, they should make police reports, and report their lawyers to the Bar Council, their bankers to the Association of Banks Malaysia, and highlight their situation to the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, House Buyers Association (HBA), as well as to Rehda.

The more light that we'll be able to shed on these illegal developers, and the more all the organisations can work together to support the ministry, the quicker we will be able to get rid of this scourge.

The Housing Development Act has strong and stringent controls to make sure the proper delivery of housing.

On Rehda's part as a responsible NGO, we are educating our members to make sure that they abide by the association's code of ethics and subscribe to the 4R values of being responsible, respected, responsive and relevant.

If there are buyers not certain about the property that they purchased, their first line of defence are the lawyers who represented them in their sales rights and be better educated in their buying decisions and this could be achieved by seeking information from the ministry's website, Rehda, HBA and their lawyers and bankers.

Often, oversights that led to failure of housing delivery and illegal development could also be attributable to lack of resources to monitor and enforce the law.
