Greensboro could fund up to $5 million in grants, loans to developers

In the next month, the Greensboro City Council could dish out as much as $5 million in grants and loans to developers.

Assistant City Manager Andy Scott said that is something the City Council will have to consider.

The projects will have to compete for the council's blessing.

The companies want the money to prepare the land for development by, for instance, connecting it to water service or leveling the ground. Of course, this loan would be made based on collateral being submitted and valued at the loan's payoff amount, including interest at a competitive (but not less than what a good performing business would pay) rate. I say NO to any grants, unless verifiable advantages to the grantor can be thoroughly tested.

It's interesting that the vast majority of business owners are conservatives who vote Republican and go around screaming about the virtues of capitalism and the hazards of socialism. To them, welfare is only good for businesses, not individuals. I guess that means we commoners aren't as sophisticated as he and his cohorts and we certainly aren't as educated.

Robbie is always ready to spend the tax payer's money before he spends his own or of those with whom he wants to help.

When I built a house I had to pay for the land clearing myself.

Gee, that 4 million dollar savings per year by using the White Street Landfill, looks pretty good right now the way this city council is throwing out the money. Now, if they have insufficient "profits" to do this, then MAYBE a municipal loan could be considered.

"We'd like to get it construction-ready," he said of the home.

If I read this correctly, Roy Carroll wants $5,300,000 to clear some land he owns, apparently outside Greensboro city limits.

Robbie and his administration gave $100,000 of the taxpayers money to developers headed by Isner to build a store for Deep Roots.

Robbie and his adminstration gave $200,000 to the same developers to build a Mexican restaurant near downtown.

Is this the very best use for $5,600,000 of the citizens of Greensboro tax money?

it also says that banks are not willing to lend money for such a speculative venture.

Lynch said he showed Carroll's property to ATered Democrats, except Robbie.

Robbie can be a RINO.

roy carroll donated to everyone's campaign.

If I am doing the numbers correctly, Roy gave local politicans, from Kay Hagan to most city countil members something in the neighborhood of $100,000.

He stands a good chance of getting $5,300,000 of Greensboro's taxpayer's money from the city council to clear land he owns outside the city limits.

Between now and a planned April 16 public hearing, city staffers will evaluate the proposals to help the council understand the potential benefits to Greensboro.
