Moline looking for developers

Renew Moline and the city of Moline are in need of master developers and planners to offer concepts for RiverTech, a house located on River Drive between 25th and 29th streets. That could be student housing or market-rate residential, restaurants, bookstores, coffee shops, possibly offices.

"The city of Moline has experienced a lot of growth in its riverfront downtown over the past decade with more to come," said Janet Mathis, executive director of Renew Moline.

"We hope the developer would come up with private money to build it," he said.

Western Illinois University opened its new Quad-Cities Riverfront Campus in January of 2012 and expects to break ground on Phase II yet this fall.

He said the city owns the land, demolished a previous building located there and has built all of the necessary infrastructure.

Ray Forsythe, the city's planning and development director, said the idea is to create structures on the land which will accompany the Western Illinois University Riverfront Quad-Cities Campus located to the east of the property.

"Downtown employment options continue to grow, and we have recently solidified the presence of one of those key employers with the soon-to-be-opened Kone Centre," Mathis said.
